My website is now part of 512kb.club - a curated list of sites whose total size is under 512KB. That’s it. Half a megabyte. Even less, actually, because my blog was reported at 410K.

In 2026, when even basic websites are rebuilt as React applications, that almost feels rebellious.

Modern websites routinely ship multiple megabytes of JavaScript, tracking scripts, animations, fonts, and frameworks just to render a few paragraphs of text. We’ve normalized shipping entire applications to display a landing page.

I prefer a different approach.

Minimalism on the web isn’t about visual style. It’s about architectural discipline:

  • Fewer dependencies
  • Less JavaScript
  • Smaller attack surface
  • Faster load times
  • Lower resource consumption

A small website is faster, easier to maintain, easier to secure, and it says more about the owner’s philosophy.

Joining 512kb.club it’s a reminder that the web doesn’t have to be bloated to be modern.

Fun fact, there are only 3 websites from the .ro TLD on that list. I think we can all do better to trim the digital fat.
